Segmented Woodturning or to give it it’s correct name, Polychromatic Segmented Woodturning is a method of joining different species of wood to create patterns using the natural colours and grains of the material. Many of the patterns are very intricate and the various colours of wood are at times unbelievable. The objects made with this technique varies from small objects such as key rings and pens to full sets of furniture. Many of the bowls manufactured by this method take their inspiration from the objects and artefacts produced by the South West tribes of Native Americans of the USA. Their pottery and basket weaving gives much inspiration to segmented wood turners. All the objects are unique in their patterns and grains as each is hand crafted with loving care. My pens were at the outset developed as an offshoot of segmented turning and I incorporated the technique into them. Later I developed many ways to produce my unique patterns. Besides using many rare species of wood from all around the world, I have also developed my own ideas using polymers to produce the pen barrels, again each one has its own unique pattern which is impossible to reproduce.
